I was finishing up Audrey’s birthday invitations. And I LOVE IT! I adore DIY and especially paper crafts. I feel like invitations are the first impression of the event. If you send out cheap, tacky invitations people may assume that the event is going to be that way. It’s the same with gift wrapping for me. I want the wrapping to be part of the gift and so I spend a lot of time making it beautiful.
Audrey’s Invitations were so much fun for me to complete. I don’t get too many chances to make invitations since we don’t have a lot of formal parties. Maybe we should start? I enjoy party planning and every little detail.
What You’ll Need
- 1 White Onion
- 5 Garlic Cloves
- 1 Cup of Chicken Broth
- Pork Shoulder Bone In
- Liquid Smoke
- Ground Cumin
- Brown Sugar
- Chili Powder
Chop your onions and garlic the spread them on the bottom of your crock pot.
Now we have to make a dry rub for the pork.
1 TBSP Chili Powder
1 TBSP Brown Sugar
1 TBSP Salt
1/2 TSP Ground Cumin
1/4 TSP Cinnamon or 1/2 TSP if you like Cinnamon
Mix all these ingredients together and rub it all over your pork shoulder. Then set your pork shoulder in the crock pot.
Cooking time varies but I usually cook it 6-8 hours on high. Once it is soft I pull the bone and the fat out of the crock pot. We keep the bones for our dog 🙂 He loves them. Take two forks and shred the meat. You can take the meat out of the crock pot to do this, but I just do it in the crock pot. Now ENJOY it with your favorite BBQ Sauce. I find that the meat is flavored enough to eat it without BBQ sauce. My family likes Famous Daves Original Recipe sauce.
I like Guacamole a certain way. I don’t like mayo or anything like that in it because I really like the avocado flavor. If you are like me, you may like this Guac recipe I made. It’s so easy and its so yummy!
Here’s What You Need:
3 Ripe Avocados
Cut the Avocados in half and de-pit them. Use a spoon to scrape out the inside.
Use a fork to mash your avocados up. I like mine a little chunky so I don’t mash it TOO much.
Chop your cilantro into little pieces. I LOVE cilantro and I can eat it plain, but I know a lot of people don’t like it. I use about 1/2 – 3/4 cup of chopped cilantro.
1/4 TSP Ground Cumin
1/4 TSP Garlic Powder
1/4 TSP Onion Powder
1/2 Cup Chopped Cilantro
1/2 TSP Salt
Mix Mix Mix
DONE! Add more or less of the ingredients to make it your own.
Many of you know that I have a LOVE for handbags. This year I really REALLY wanted a nice bag that would be a good size for dinners and receptions. I decided I wanted a Jumbo Chanel Flap in lambskin, but I never really thought that Tom would want to buy one. He doesn’t really understand the allure of designer handbags. So I searched and searched for another birthday gift that would make ‘sense’ to ask for, but I still really wanted this handbag.
Well Tom likes to give me more reasons to LOVE HIM! We decided to buy a used one on ebay. I had it authenticated and I think we got a pretty good deal. I CANNOT justify buying any Chanel classic handbags new anymore. Chanel has gotten a little ‘trigger happy’ with these price increases and it really puts a sour taste in my mouth. I had such a great experience buying this bag on ebay; I will probably purchase most of my future handbags from trustworthy ebay sellers from now on (except my future Hermes Birkin).
It has a few scratch marks and indents from the chain, but it’s lovely.
Two peas in a pod. My Maxi Caviar next to my new Jumbo Lamb.
And on top of this already huge gift, he bought me a pair of earrings that I have been wanting for a while. They go beautifully with my purse too! They can be dressed up or dressed down and they sparkle 🙂
Tom brought home some beautiful roses for me!
Wellllllllll I have finally reached the age that I am going to be for the next 10 years lol. I was born 25 years ago today. WOW! I can’t believe how old I have gotten. I feel a sense of panic as I think about how quickly life has been going since turning 21. It took FOREVER to get to 21, but now I blink and another year goes by. As a kid you get way more gifts on your birthday, but I am pretty happy with the turnout this year. One of the first few things that I let Tom know about me was that my birthday was a huge deal. Not the whole getting older thing, but the celebration that I graced the earth on this day lol. I love it.
He does a good job on my birthdays though. This year I got spoiled again :). I will post pictures of all my birthday gifts for you all to see. Last year I wasn’t supposed to get a birthday gift because I wanted to lump my Christmas, Birthday, and Push Present together in order to get a BIG present. But Tom still got me a nice pair of earrings and a TV for our bedroom.
EEEEKK! This year I got two FANTASTIC gifts from Tom. I can’t wait to show you guys. My parents are flying in tonight so I should probably be cleaning the house but I thought I had to post something for you all today. Ugh 25 is so hard to think about. I’m sure on the 30th birthday 25 will seem like forever ago and I will probably look back and feel silly for feeling ‘old’ at 25.
I cooked us a yummy meal of breaded pork chops, green beans, and stuffing. It wasn’t planned but that was all I had to work with and it was fantastic.
Ugh guys my Canon camera is getting replaced. I LOVE this camera guys, but I have been having a little issue with it and the company has been so responsive. They are just going to send me a new one. I can’t wait to get it so I can vlog and take pictures for everyone. Right now I am back to using my Sony video camera; also a great camera.
We also picked a WINNER for our Moby Wrap Give Away! So that was super fun. Now I need to ship it. Today I ALSO GOT MY BIRTHDAY GIFT from my hubby. Tom is so great. He knows I don’t like getting older each year 😦 so he always gets me wonderful presents. I love him so much. I can’t wait to show it to him when he gets home. I will show you guys everything I got for my birthday! I turn 25 on 8-22. WOW 25.
What a BEAUTIFUL day we expected when we planned to rent a boat to go out onto the lake with. We had everything set up…..YAY we get to ride in a boat for a few hours. Once we arrived at the Marina we noticed some very puffy grey clouds coming in from the West. The weather report said that there was rain coming.
We decided to go take our chances. Our boat was very nice and clean and actually pretty inexpensive for 2 hours – $125. Once we got out onto the water we went as fast as we could and tried to go over every wave we saw. But we noticed those clouds getting closer and closer. By the time we were out on the lake for 45 minutes the water had become choppy and the wind was sooooooo icy! I was starting to see the day changing direction.
After another 10 minutes it was raining and we couldn’t avoid getting splashed by the 40 degree lake water. Every bump we went over sent a spray of ice water in our faces. By this time our clothing was soaked, we were all huddled on the floor of the boat to try to stay lukewarm, and we were still out in the middle of the lake.
We decided to head back. The sky was completely dark now and the rain was falling. Being soaked on a freezing lake with an icy breeze was not what we expected when we arrived. In the end we got off the boat safely. Although freezing, soaked, and………. did I mention FREEZING, we now have a story to share with all of you.
I would like to do this again sometime, but next time we will be checking the forecast!
Summer is almost over everyone! I can’t believe the cold weather and land of goose pimples is approaching. I was born in Phoenix……you know, the city where people say “Snow?! What is this thing….this SNOW you speak of?” Now snow is good for two things 1) snowboarding 2) making Christmas WHITE! But since snow comes with cold, it’s not one of my favorite things in the world.
Ah ok I am done with my rant about the cold, back to our weekend. We first went to Goodwill. Thank God for Goodwill. Let’s just say that kids don’t take the best care of their clothing, so places like Goodwill really make sense. We went there to get some uniforms this year and we made out great. Plus Audrey got a little pony ride out of it.
I have a hard time paying $11.99 for something that will be worn for 8 months when I can pay $2.99. I bought Audrey a whole stash of clothing from there, and we are set for while. I was never a “Thrift Store” kind of girl, lets face it. When Tom and I met he was in a thrift store at least once a week, that is pretty overkill even in my present state of thrift store loving. He would want to go to Goodwill and I would cringe, but after a while I began to look forward to it. Maternity clothes are crazy expensive and I refused to pay $75 for a tank top! But at Goodwill I bought a whole wardrobe for pregnancy for around $60. And now I have a box of maternity clothes in my basement for my next belly. For that I love Goodwill!
We stopped at Ross; another great store for inexpensive, quality items. We just bought a few more things there that we didn’t find at the GW. At Wal-Mart we bought lots of yummy things to pack in their lunch boxes. They would much rather we pack cake and ice cream every day but that is NOT going to happen. So to the best of our ability, keeping things healthy and tasty, we gathered everything we needed there.
After all our shopping we stopped at the park to see what festival was going on. It happened to be very windy and quite chilly so we didn’t stay too long. It was kind of pathetic for a festival though. I think there were 5 tents and a few tables set up….very disappointing.
We ended the day with a nice bath, IN THE SINK! This sink is the best tub a mom could ask for. Growing up my family never put babies in bathtubs, just sinks. I have pictures of my younger cousins and little sister all stuffed into a sink together. It just makes sense to me, and it works for us.
Anyways that was our Saturday. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. And there are even LESS hours when winter arrives. Enjoy the last few months of summer!
