This last weekend we went camping at Devil’s Head in Colorado. It’s a great little camp site close to Denver so it’s wonderful for a short trip. This would be Audrey’s SECOND camping trip. She is so at home in the woods. She is impossible to keep clean. On the drive down Tom had the great (not really) idea to get milk shakes. I’ve gotten Audrey milkshakes before and she has had no issues eating them in her carseat. Well this time she thought she needed to rinse her hair with her banana cream pie milkshake……… We discovered this mess once we took her out of the carseat at our campsite. It was baaaaaad. We are in the middle of nowhere with no running water and my toddler needs a serious bath now. I ended up warming some water and pouring it over her head. She was not happy but it had to be done.
The first night there we had neighbors who were pretty obnoxious. I can’t stand camping with close neighbors. Especially if they like to make tons of noise. Lucking they left the next morning so we reserved their spot for our friends who were driving up Saturday afternoon. Saturday was pretty bad because it rained the whole afternoon. WHAT IS UP WTH THE WEATHER THIS SUMMER? Usually it rains in the spring, and maybe a few times in the summer, but this summer it has been raining almost every day. It’s so different from the last 2 years when we had so many forest fires all around Colorado. I’d much rather have rain than fires I guess. Sunday was fun because we decided to go floating down the Platte River. This was our first time but wont be the last. It was so fun. There were many rocks we ran into and lots of ice cold water spraying us. Poor Audrey wasn’t happy. She was due for a nap so she cried half the time. The poor baby actually fell asleep on Toms lap in his inner tube. She was so cute in her little life vest though. We made it our of the river just in time to race back to the campsite and pack up.
Tom and I (well I) had to work fast to get things washed and put away because we are leaving for Cancun tomorrow! Getting home from a camping trip is hard because everything is SO dirty. Plus I am super OCD so I do inventory on all the supplies and write packing lists and organize everything. It’s nice when we leave for a trip because we just load the camping boxes and go. There is no need to make a shopping list to buy things like lighter fluid, matches, or anything because it’s already pre-packed. It just means that I have to organize it again after the camping trip. AND LAUNDRY…..oh everything smells like smoke so it takes some time to get rid of that. But it all got done Sunday night and Monday. Then I spend Tuesday packing and cleaning for our departure Wednesday. YAY Cancun.

We Are Back!

We are back home from a wonderful AZ trip. I am sad to be back because it was so much fun being there with everyone. Traveling with Audrey is not easy. I had bruises on my wrists from wrangling all the luggage together, thank goodness I didn’t have to bring the pack n play! Audrey was so cute this last week. I tried to vlog but it just wasn’t working because I would forget and get busy, it just didn’t work out. Sorry guys I wish I was able to make it happen. Audrey was obsessed with airplanes on this trip. Every 5 minutes it would be “AIRPLANE Oh No!” haha TOO CUTE! We had a good great time and now we are home. It is nice to be home, but I wish I could call AZ home………soon. I know you all are missing us so much 🙂 so I will get back to vlogging today. Some exciting traveling coming up! Camping, then Cancun, and then……..EUROPE!!!!

No Buying Makeup Challenge for July

AHHHHHHH This has been such a challenge this week. It’s so easy to just pick up some drugstore makeup here and there. Actually I bought 2 concealers from Walgreens so technically I have failed. BUT my reasoning is as follows:

I purchased the very hyped up Cle De Peau Beaute Concealer for…….$70…..YES that is a SEVEN and a ZERO. I thought it was an INSANE price to pay for any makeup product, but my curiosity got the best of me. I am always in search of Holy Grail makeup products and I was hoping this would be it for the concealer……..well it wasn’t. Yes it is a wonderful concealer but NOT for $70. For that price it better be concealing and folding my laundry! So anyways, I ended up returning it because it just wasn’t as good as I expected. I was reading about dupes for it and someone mentioned a Boots concealer stick. I went out to find it and had no luck. Skip forward 3 weeks – I’m in Walgreens picking up some medicine in AZ and I happen to walk by the Boots Cosmetics section. I quickly saw that they had the concealer there……and it was ON SALE! AND not only was it on sale, Walgreens was giving $0.50 for every dollar spent on cosmetics!! So I grabbed 2 of them for $14…..but add in the $0.50 and it’s only $7. The Boots concealer is great too, not as good as the Cle De Peau but it’s only a 10th of the price!

Now I am sitting here watching The ReaViewer on Youtube while Audrey naps – BAD IDEA. Every time I watch her I discover some high end…..more like HIGHEST end cosmetic that I NEED. She has a great channel, but man oh man are the products expensive. I thought Chanel and Dior sold expensive makeup, but she introduced me to brands like Tom Ford, Cle De Peau, and Kevyn Aucoin. We aren’t just talking $30 for a blush, with these lines it’s $90. Insane…I know, but I just get sucked in. My latest “NEED” – that I don’t really need at all – is the Cle De Peau eyebrow pencil. The cool thing about this pencil is that it has refill cartridges. But the pen is $35 and the cartridge is $25, so your first purchase will be $60 YIKES. The ReaViewer says her pencil lasts her a year, which is the only way it would make sense for me to buy. As of this moment I use the Anastasia Brow Wiz and I love it, but I have to re-purchase every 2-3 months ($21). If the Cle De Peau pencil really lasts a year then it may be worth it? So it is the 17th of July today and I am not supposed to buy any makeup this month, how do I get around this. I think I am going to cave, or maybe I should make a deal with myself – Wait until my pencil is empty and then buy one.

Who would have thought this challenge would be so tough. I know some woman who can’t stop buying clothes or shoes, but my problem is makeup. I have no problem spending $30 on makeup, but if it was a shirt or some other clothing item I would feel guilty.

Shadow Box Ideas For Nurseries

When Tom and I discovered our little Audrey growing we built a nursery for her in our master bedroom. It used to be a living room area with a couch, but it was basically wasted space because we didn’t use it. We closed it off by building a wall and then we painted it and added a new chandelier. It’s actually one of my favorite rooms in the house just because it’s so darn cute.

I didn’t put anything on the walls because I wanted to add things as she grew so her room would really be ‘hers’. I kept things to scrapbook and put into shadow boxes. It really is a great idea, you hit 2 birds with one stone. You get things to hang on the walls and you get a special way to display keepsakes. I don’t like the idea of have boxes in the basement full of keepsake items. It feels ‘useless’ or like ‘clutter’ when it gets stored like that because let’s face it, how many of us actually go through these boxes once they are packed (other than during a move).

Here are the items I have framed and hung so far.

Here is Audrey’s “I Was Born at Home” certificate, which I am proud of.

On the left is Audrey’s first Christmas stocking. The blue backing on the shadow box is also the wrapping paper that I used for Christmas this last year – 2013. I thought that would be a nice touch, plus it’s beautiful and I had extra. The shadow box on the right it the onesie Audrey wore at her first birthday party, it also came with a hat.

On one of the shelves in the nursery is this shadow box with her foot and hand prints from when she was a newborn. Also in the box are a pair of her socks and pink ornament shoes that a close friend gave us.

Last we have this old comic book framed. Tom’s mom gave this to us when she first came to meet Audrey. It was a very sweet, thoughtful gift and I love seeing it on her wall. It’s also funny because the Audrey in the comic has red hair, and if you remember our Audrey had light red hair when she was born.

I hope this excites your creative side and gives you guys some ideas for your shadow boxes. I love keepsakes, but I HATE clutter so this was the perfect option for me.

Independence Day 2014

We started the day with some red, white, and blue pancakes. I really liked how they turned out. I just used some food coloring in the batter and then cooked like normal. It was very festive.

Next was hair and makeup time. We did the red, white, and blue colors again. I saw a picture of this hairstyle on a little girl and I re-created it for my step daughter Amelia. It came out BEAUTIFUL. See the star made out of braids?!

At around 5:30 we headed to the part to get a spot for the festivities. We invited some friends and Tom’s family was in town so we all got a big spot on the grass. It started raining shortly after we got there. It was a bummer because it didn’t stop for about an hour! Everything got pretty wet but I guess that is the trade off in order to enjoy fireworks this year. We haven’t had fireworks for 2 years because of the fires. Luckily the rain did finally stop and we got to see a little sun before the sun went down. Audrey was so tired. She was falling asleep during the fireworks. The finale was loud so it woke her up and she was pretty annoyed haha! But YAY for fireworks FINALLY!

June Loves!

Here are my June fav’s for you guys. I have a lot of stuff to show you. I forgot to add one thing though……my Honeywell Humidifier! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I have never owned such a great humidifier. It literally will take a large room from 30% to 50% humidity in less than an hour. It did cost a pretty penny – $85, but if you consider that I have to buy a new $50 humidifier every year then it’s pretty good (if it lasts). The cheaper humidifiers would mysteriously stop working at about a year. It’s manufacturers probably work together to make sure people keep buying new ones every year. I don’t know how long this one will last but if it works well for a year before I have to replace it then it’s worth it to me.
