Today I have 5 Tom Ford Quads to show you. These sell at $80 a pop, which is INSANELY expensive in my opinion. If you have the money then I would say these are a nice splurge. HOWEVER if I was going to buy a TF item it would be a lipstick not an eye shadow quad. For the most part I felt like something was lacking with each quad. Meaning – I wouldn’t be able to go on a trip and take just one to fulfill both daytime and evening looks. If I’m going to spend $80 on an eye shadow palette I would like it to be a one stop shop kind of deal.
My top picks in order:
Golden Mink – The top gold and copper colors are beautiful glitter shadows! This palette is really nice, but with 2 out of 4 being glitter shadows I can see how this could limit you a bit.
Silvered Topaz – I was not impressed with this quad. The shadows were a nice texture but I felt like the color family was a bit boring.
Orchid Haze & Titanium Smoke
Orchid Haze – a nice purple quad. I have no complaints other than the fact that I rarely reach for a purple shadow. I can’t say that this would be ‘worth’ the cost even though it is nice quality. There are several brands that have purple colors in their palettes for much less money.
Titanium Smoke was my second favorite out of the 5. The top left color looks gold, but it actually transfers as a beautiful silver glitter. These shadows are lovely and this quad is great for night looks. I don’t think this palette would be suited for daytime looks.
Nude Dip – This quad is by far my favorite out of the 5. I thought I was going to feel unfulfilled by not having a matte shadow but I wasn’t. I did a simple daytime smoky eye and I didn’t feel like the shimmer was too much. The colors all blend and work together well. The top left is a great highlight for the inner corners which is a huge bonus for me. I do think that I would add a darker shadow if I were going out in the evening.
Frogglez Swimming Goggles with Universal Strap for Kids
Aqua Sphere Seal Kid Swim Goggle
I bought these two goggles on Amazon to try for Audrey. She is almost 3 years old, but has gotten used to wearing goggles while swimming. Her swim school recommended I buy some for her and I purchased her first pair from them. In the beginning she hated wearing them. I didn’t push it and when she’d ask for them I would put them on and when she wanted them off I would take them off. I think as she grew older she started noticing that they helped her see better under the water. She started asking to wear her goggles at swimming pools and got really comfortable with them on. Eventually we lost the first pair from the swim school and since then I had purchased other “toddler”sized goggles, ALL of which leaked or wouldn’t seal. I finally decided to spend some coin and get good quality pairs.
The Frogglez seem like a great idea and we have tried them, but not successfully. They are too big for her still so they don’t seal. The head band part works great so far. I just wish there was a bit more stretch to so I wouldn’t have to pull so hard to get it over Audrey’s head. The Frogglez are for 3+ so I hope she grows into them well. They are more expensive being $19, but you can put most goggle frames on the head band. They connect with Velcro so it would be an easy switch if you wanted to change the goggle size.
The Aqua Sphere Seal goggles worked better than the Frogglez for Audrey. I really liked that they are a large framed goggle. This allowed me to place them on her easier because I didn’t have to worry about placing them perfectly over the eyes. They sealed better than the Frogglez since the band allows adjustments. I just tightened the band and pressed them to her face to get a good seal. These goggles were 3+ also, but the adjustable band makes them a better fit. These were a bit cheaper than the Frogglez being $17. They also came with a nice case to keep them in. I definitely like the Aqua Sphere goggles better right now since the Frogglez don’t even fit because the head band doesn’t adjust.
We recently purchased this 5.0 cu ft chest freezer since our rental home has a tiny side by side refrigerator. Before we moved to Texas we had invested in a large refrigerator with a drawer freezer that we had to leave behind when we sold our last home. I was spoiled with all the freezer space I used to have so when we moved into the rental I had a hard time. We originally thought we wanted to buy the 7.0 cu ft chest freezer they carry in Costco. I went to the store to buy one but it ended up being a lot larger than I expected. I went home and checked what Walmart had to offer online and I ordered the Haier. I was very happy with the price, but was unsure with the size. I wasn’t going to be able to see it before purchasing and that always gives me anxiety. Walmart offered free shipping and it arrived quickly. The negative reviews on this unit were usually surrounding damage and denting upon delivery, unfortunately I ended up experiencing this when it arrived. The chest had been dented in the back so the lid didn’t close correctly. It was packaged well so the denting must have happened before shipping to me. Luckily Walmart made life simple and we were able to load it in the car and go return it. The freezer was the perfect size so I decided to order another one in hopes that it would arrive in better shape. The second Haier I bought was a ‘local pick up’. The Walmart by me just happened to have ONE in the back (this wasn’t an option with freezer #1). Tom was out of town but I was able to bring it home and set it up on my own. Freezer #2 was in much better shape. There was some rippling on the top but no denting. We have been using it for about a month now and I LOVE IT. It’s been the perfect size for us. It’s large enough for me to freeze ready-made meals, but still small enough that I know what foods are hanging out in the bottom. If we end up needing more freezer space I would just buy a second one and keep it in the garage. Needless to say I am thrilled with this purchase. Everything worked out in the end and I’m so happy that I took a second chance after receiving a damaged unit.
Stay tuned for my top 10 meals I freeze for my family!
It’s been a long time coming but here it is! This summer give away is focused around some of my favorite skincare products currently. Please watch the video to enter the give away! A winner will be chosen randomly next Saturday.
I am a new fan of body oil. This skincare brand was really interesting to me because they use ingredients like truffle in this skincare line. I have several other items to try from them, but this oil has quickly become a staple in my skincare so far. I find it so much easier to spray it on a cotton pad vs. applying moisturizer. I’ll be updating my progress in another 2 weeks.
These lipsticks have a really nice smooth texture. I really like the colors I received. I think I really want to buy more lip glosses because I liked the consistency and the color pay off. Watch my video to hear more!
We recently purchased this Schwinn 430 from Wal-mart because after our move we decided to cancel our gym membership. I love going to exercise classes, but the gym became such a hassle. It took hours to drive to the gym, check Audrey into the daycare, drop my stuff off in a locker, get to the class and set up, actually complete a workout……etc. Plus the gym membership here in San Antonio was going to be MORE expensive than it was in Denver. The Schwinn 430 was $577 plus tax. We considered that if we stayed with a gym not only would we have driving costs, we would also pay $150/month for our membership. Back in Denver we owned an older model Schwinn 430 elliptical that we sold before the move. I LOVED my old elliptical. It was light and easy to use, so I knew I wanted to get another one eventually.
This newer Schwinn 430 has a lot more features than my older one did. It has speakers, a fan, can keep memory for 2 users, more programs, larger foot pads, flash drive plug to transfer data, and I think it’s cheaper than the older one was. Compared to the older model, this one is definitely heavier and a bit bulkier. It’s still a good size for in home use though. I like having a fan in the monitor, that and a larger holder for my water bottles/remotes. The stride length is 20 inches vs. 18 inches on the older model. This also has a manual incline that you can adjust if you like, but I haven’t felt the need to use it. My husband set it up by himself with a few basic tools. It took a few hours and once it was set up we discovered that the monitor sat crooked and the heart rate monitor wasn’t working. I contacted Schwinn the next week and they were SO helpful. I just explained to them what was wrong and they shipped us new parts. Unfortunately the heart rate still wont pick up so I called them this week and they were just as nice as the first time. They sent out a whole new digital monitor that I hope will fix the problem. I am super impressed with their customer service.
I don’t really have any cons for this elliptical. I suppose I wish the poles were a few inches taller. It was awkward at first, but I’ve started to get used to them. They definitely give my arms a workout so I can’t really complain too much about their design.
I’m very happy with our decision to start exercising at home. It’s given us more family time because Tom exercises in the morning and I exercise in the afternoon which allows us to spend our evenings together instead of at the gym.
I have loved the Too Faced line for a long time. This brand is an example of how much product packaging influences people. I am always drawn to the packaging first and the product second when it comes to Too Faced. It really pulls my girl heart strings, so I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to try this stuff. I received a few samples while I had eyelash extensions so I wasn’t able to really try it. Once I made the decision to stop getting extensions I was on the hunt for a mascara. I went back to my old favorite by Hard Candy, but it didn’t have the same magic. I think they may have changed the formula of the Hard Candy Volume mascara because I used to LOVE it and the last tube I tried was disappointing. So on I went in search of a new mascara. I ended up having problems keeping my lashes curled. It seemed like anytime I curled my lashes and then added mascara they would fall flat. No amount of curling was helping them stay up, even products like the Benefit Rollerlash didn’t work. I never used to have any issues with keeping my lashes curled so this was new territory. There is a super talented makeup artist called Amrezy and she mentioned that this was her favorite mascara. This is when I finally decided to go out and give it a try, and I’ve been loving it. The packaging it so cute and sturdy. I think it has an aluminum outer so that gives it some weight. The brush doesn’t look ‘user friendly’ but it is. I was using the L’Oreal Voluminous and I think it’s good……..but I always thought it was a tad too wet. I had to be careful applying it or my lashes would clump. I’ve been using the Better Than Sex mascara for about a week now and I really like it. Some days after I apply it my curl goes flat, but I can easily re-curl my lashes and it actually holds. The only CON I have is that it does flake a little bit. I imagine that the older the tube gets the more the formula will flake……I just don’t know how long a tube will last yet. Right now I only notice 3-4 small flakes at the end of the day so it’s pretty easy to just wipe away.
So now the big question – “Is it better than sex?”. Well I have to say NO of course not, at least to me haha.
I have tried SO many powders in my lifetime. This Dior Skin powder is pretty amazing. Every time I go on vacation to a humid area, this is the foundation I use. It has SPF 25 and I am the color 020. The compact is refillable. So once your powder is out you just buy a refill and you can see I am just about out. I have owned this product for about 4 years. I have used it on and off like most of my other makeup products. I rarely make it through a makeup product, but I just keep going back to this one. It has taken me a long time to use this up but I switch up my makeup routine seasonally. I use translucent powder a large part of the year so this powder gets a break. This is not cheap, but after years of using it I can say it’s worth it. It has very good coverage and the texture is very smooth. When I use cheaper drugstore powders they always seem to have these tiny granules in them. After you go through the first layer you can see little bumps on the surface. I rarely buy products again because I like to try new items, but I plan to repurchase this.
Here you can see the bumps I am referring to in cheaper powders. This is the maybelline instant age rewind. I liked it until the bumps showed up.
