This year we went to town on this sale. I have very few things that I actually splurge on in life……handbags and makeup. Other than that I run a tight budget. A lot of people see what I have and they assume that we are big spenders but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I save to buy and if I can’t save then I don’t buy. Last year I didn’t shop the Anniversary sale so I had money I saved up in addition to the money I saved for this sale. The older I get the more I believe that its better to spend money to buy quality items. I’d rather have a small closet with quality pieces than cheap clothes stuffed everywhere. Younger people tend to buy fashions that are “in” or “trendy” so their wardrobes rotate annually. I still buy fashionably in season items, but I look for comfort and quality a lot more than I used to. Part of growing up is discovering the things that YOU really like and I like to be comfortable. After you have children it also changed what you look for in your clothing. I never had anything against low rise jeans until now! I worked hard to have a flat stomach after carrying a baby, but I squirm at the idea of having to wear low cut pants. When I’m chasing around a toddler the last thing I want to worry about is pulling my pants up! Over-all it was a successful sale experience. I’m still giddy over the Louise et Cie boots I found!
I recently bought this pair on Ivanka Trump over the knee boots at Nordstrom and I wanted to find a way to wear them without looking like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. They are cloth boots with shiny gold hardware. I think they are fairly comfortable but definitely need some padding, but I can add those myself. The skirt was $4.80 at Forever 21 and the sweater is something I took from my mom :). I think if you are going to wear over the knee/thigh high anything it’s a good idea to cover everything above the thigh. This look would come out pretty trashy if I decided to wear a tank top instead of a sweater. I think these types of boots also look great with sweater dresses and over skinny jeans.
If you don’t own any over the knee socks or boots here is another cute option for fall lovers. I just paired the same outfit with some calf high white socks and some Tory Burch nude flats. Both looks are super cute and very wearable for early fall. Later in the season it may be too cold for the sock look though. I always have great ideas on what I’m going to wear during the winter months, but when it really gets cold I have a hard time wearing anything but sweat pants. Since we are moving to Texas I’m hoping I will keep up the motivation to dress cute all winter. It’s a lot easier to wear flats and heels when you don’t have to worry about slipping on ice!
Today I went for comfort! I just wore a loose fitting brown shirt over some jeggings. The black boots are a Forever 21 find and so are the jeggings. My mom gave me this top when I was pregnant but I still love to wear it. I dress for comfort most days, but that doesn’t mean I am reduced to sweat pants and flip flops. The boots aren’t that comfortable yet…….hopefully after a few days of being worn they will be. If things are uncomfortable they end up sitting in my closet until I donate them. I rarely have the patience to wear things until they are “worn in” unless I have to. But I am more budget conscious than comfort conscious. Since these boots were only $40 compared to the other pair I was looking at for $198, I think I can handle a few days of toe torture!
Every year I see the trees start to turn and I cling to what’s left of summer. I want to wear as little clothing possible until I have to pull out that big down jacket. Over the last week it was somewhat cold and cloudy everyday so I got a little taste of winter again. It was nice to bring out the boots and thigh high socks, BUT I can only stand to wear boots so long. I GET SO BORED with the boot look since I am a flip flop kind of girl. Every winter I get into my closet and feel sad that I have to wear boots again. My open toed wedges and True Religion jeans are calling my name! But lets be real, what a disaster that would be on icy walk ways and snow.
I think this year my plan of attack will be to wear boots with everything, shorts, skirts, leggings, and of course the skinny jean staple. I need to buy a pair of comfortable boots with a heel. That way I can get away with looking girly and also stay warm. Last year I just had Audrey so my focus was comfort and well, whatever would even fit me!
Audrey and I took a walk yesterday and we took some pictures of the leaves for you all to see.
This spot of water is the last bit that we have left over from all the rain. Northern Colorado got it really bad. I can’t believe how destructive the rain was for us. Last year the LACK of rain was bad and this year it seems like the opposite. Somethings always going on in this state. We are popular for too many reasons lol.
