Toddler Goggles

Frogglez Swimming Goggles with Universal Strap for Kids

Aqua Sphere Seal Kid Swim Goggle

I bought these two goggles on Amazon to try for Audrey. She is almost 3 years old, but has gotten used to wearing goggles while swimming. Her swim school recommended I buy some for her and I purchased her first pair from them. In the beginning she hated wearing them. I didn’t push it and when she’d ask for them I would put them on and when she wanted them off I would take them off. I think as she grew older she started noticing that they helped her see better under the water. She started asking to wear her goggles at swimming pools and got really comfortable with them on. Eventually we lost the first pair from the swim school and since then I had purchased other “toddler”sized goggles, ALL of which leaked or wouldn’t seal. I finally decided to spend some coin and get good quality pairs.

The Frogglez seem like a great idea and we have tried them, but not successfully. They are too big for her still so they don’t seal. The head band part works great so far. I just wish there was a bit more stretch to so I wouldn’t have to pull so hard to get it over Audrey’s head. The Frogglez are for 3+ so I hope she grows into them well. They are more expensive being $19, but you can put most goggle frames on the head band. They connect with Velcro so it would be an easy switch if you wanted to change the goggle size.

The Aqua Sphere Seal goggles worked better than the Frogglez for Audrey. I really liked that they are a large framed goggle. This allowed me to place them on her easier because I didn’t have to worry about placing them perfectly over the eyes. They sealed better than the Frogglez since the band allows adjustments. I just tightened the band and pressed them to her face to get a good seal. These goggles were 3+ also, but the adjustable band makes them a better fit. These were a bit cheaper than the Frogglez being $17. They also came with a nice case to keep them in. I definitely like the Aqua Sphere goggles better right now since the Frogglez don’t even fit because the head band doesn’t adjust.

Our Weekend In Corpus Christi!

DSCN3020 IMG_4292

We went to Corpus Christi last weekend because Tom had a conference at the Omni. I didn’t think it was going to be as refreshing as it was because we weren’t leaving the state. I guess I didn’t consider it a ‘trip’. Other than the Omni being a less than average hotel, we had a great time. I still pinch myself that we live in a new state where we can drive to the beach instead of the mountains. It’s a nice change of pace and the people in Texas are just the friendliest around. We arrived Thursday afternoon and quickly discovered that the Omni wasn’t quite as nice as we were used to. Our room would have been wonderful if it had adult sized beds. The room had two DOUBLE beds which are 54×75 inches versus a queen which is 60×80. These are the beds that furniture stores sell for KIDS rooms so why is it in a hotel??? I was almost too long for this bed so I can’t imagine how a 6’ tall man would fare. Another HUGE con was the WIFI. Note only did you have to pay $11-$14 it didn’t work! I called the front desk and their response was “sometimes when the hotel is really full the WIFI doesn’t work well”. Correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t a hotel be prepared to accommodate a full house?! The room service meals were very good though. The pool was nice except it should have been twice as large because it was getting a little crowded. All in all we gave the Omni a 2.5-3 out of 5. I wish Corpus invested in tourism more. They need a nice strip of land by the ocean with nice hotels and restaurants on the water. The beach in Corpus is nice, I wouldn’t call it a destination mostly because the city really needs to construct a ‘destination area’. I would skip Corpus all together and go straight to Port Aransas if we were looking for beach time. On last night the conference had a reception that we attended. The food…..well let’s be honest it was pretty gross. Tom even got food poisoning from it! They had two protein dishes, chicken and Mahi Mahi. The chicken still had it’s skin but it was soggy instead of crispy. It tasted like they just boiled it and tossed in hot sauce. The fish was so dry that it became chalk in our mouths and that’s never a good sign. But they did have a live band and we spent most of the night dancing. It was fun dancing with Audrey. You can see some of her ‘dance moves’ in our vlog! It was great being able to dance as a family. The wall facing the ocean was mostly glass so it was lovely being able to look at the water as the sun went down – too bad the food wasn’t on par with the ambience. Over-all a nice low key weekend that I enjoyed more than I thought I would.

The Sunshine State?

IMG_2288 IMG_2302

We have been in Ft. Lauderdale Florida since Monday. Tom had a big conference to attend here and we thought it would be a nice opportunity for a get away. Unfortunately we came during a rainy week. We haven’t had too much time in the sun and that STINKS! How is this called the sunshine state after this week lol? We have one more full day here and it’s the only “partly cloudy” day in the forecast. I hope we can soak up some sun tomorrow, but we will see. Yesterday we were on the beach with black clouds and rain……. That didn’t stop us from sitting in the sand and making sand castles. Audrey Godzilla had a lot of fun putting us to work and then smashing it. Last summer we took Audrey to Mexico and she was not a fan of the beach. This time she LOVES it! She asks every day if we can go to the beach and it makes me mad that it’s RAINING! She finally wants to go play at the beach and it rains every day. Too bad. I’m still so happy we live in Texas where we are a drive away from water. I want to plan a trip this summer to South Padre Island to participate in the sea turtle release. This is something I’ve wanted to do for years and I am just giddy that we can do it in our own backyard YAY!

Thoughts Of A Sleep Deprived Mom

IMG_2052

Sleep, what a topic! It’s common knowledge by now that when you become a parent sleep becomes a distant memory. Most people dread this part of being a parent because it is one of the harder things we have to deal with physically. When you are pregnant with your first baby people tell you what to expect, but expecting doesn’t prepare you for the physical toll. Some people think ‘I’ve been without sleep for a few days, or maybe a week so I will be fine’ but the loss of sleep could last for YEARS! Tom always liked to say “I used to work 36 hour shifts in the hospital without any sleep. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again”, but he conveniently forgets that he did it 20 years ago!! Lucky for him I did 100% of the night care with Audrey and I’ll do it with the next baby too.  It’s like being anorexic, only with the zzzZZZ. Parents are ‘sleeporexic’! If you don’t eat properly it will take a toll, just like not getting adequate sleep. Who can function without sleep? Well parents try, what choice do we have? I’m at the point now where I’m always tired. I love the idea of getting a nice restful sleep, but it never seems to happen. My hubby is wonderful at letting me sleep in (9am) on the weekends, but my body isn’t. My mommy brain has to decide between sleep and getting something done. Do I want to take advantage of an early bedtime or wash another load of laundry? Most of the time I choose to get something done. Sometimes when I get a “normal” amount of sleep it makes me slow all day. It even gives me a headache! So I long for more sleep but when I get it I don’t feel well. Ahhhh long gone are those pre-baby days where sleep was plentiful. Being a parent is a new phase of life and lack of sleep is part of it. I do miss the pre-baby days, but those days came and went like they were supposed to. I don’t feel like I let them go too soon, timing was great. It doesn’t mean that I don’t drool when I imagine how easy sleep used to be.

Sea World San Antonio

IMG_1608 IMG_1628 IMG_2422 IMG_2429

Yesterday we went to the San Antonio Sea World for the first time. It was GREAT! I love Sea World so much. The weekend Tom and I got engaged we were in Orlando Florida and we spent most of that trip at Sea World. So now it was nice to come to OUR Sea World with Audrey. She loved it! I was SO impressed with everything they had created for the young children. There were HUGE play areas for kids and rides for all ages. We went to 5 shows too. Audrey was so funny watching the show because she would get so excited. At one point during the Beluga Whale show the trainer silenced the crowd to let the whale make noises and she asked “are you ready? – well the only person in the whole audience to yell “I’M READY!” was Audrey. You can hear her pretty clearly in the vlog lol. This Sea World was definitely better than the Orlando location. There was a lot more to see and the Orca show was great. I can’t wait to see what the water park is like when it gets warmer.

This picture is of Shamu bowls that Tom and I got the weekend we were engaged. They actually sell ice cream in them, but we kept the bowls and stuck the on our wall. While we were at Sea World yesterday we got an ice cream sundae with the same bowl for Audrey! Now we can stick our baby shamu under the mommy and daddy 🙂 Watch the vlog of our day

Washing Cloth DIapers

Hey ya’ll! See what I just did…..future Texan here! We filmed a very short video to show you guys how we wash our cloth diapers. I understand that different things work for different diapers and also people. We use Alva baby diapers and here is what we found works the best. I wash the diapers 3 times. This really helps clean them completely and they absorb better when you thoroughly clean them.

Thanksgiving 2014

IMG_1128 IMG_1131 IMG_1144 IMG_1146

Turkey, stuffing, casserole, gravy, mashed potatoes, lipstick, shaking sillies out, pie, whipped cream, and so much more. These are just some of the things that were involved in this years Thanksgiving. This year was nice and informal. I love having a lot of guests and especially cooking for them all, but this year was nice too because it was so casual. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a casual Thanksgiving and I loved it. We just did whatever. No dressing up, nothing over the top. Paper plates and plastic silverware for dessert. We had the Thanksgiving basics to eat, no herb crusted lamb and roast beef. It was nice. I enjoyed this pace for Thanksgiving. Audrey spent most of the time applying her lipstick……..nonstop. She hasn’t gotten the idea that you don’t rub lipstick on for minutes at a time. But it is quite entertaining how she puts it on and says “I prittty”. So cute! She was the only one who wore anything “fancy”, because she picked her pink dress out herself. And since Thanksgiving she’s worn it every day. Yesterday I picked out pants and a pink shirt for her to wear, she had a tantrum for about an hour. And finally came back to the room with the pink dress OVER her other outfit. Stubborn baby.

Happy Second Birthday Audrey!

Audrey turned 2 on October 4th. It’s funny because so many people across the world wish her happy birthday and they’ve been apart of our life since she was born…….most of them we’ve never met! I love having blog family! This is the life Audrey will be familiar with. When she makes friends in school she’ll think it’s weird that her friends DON’T have viewers all over the world who know them. This will be her normal because she’s known the blog world since she was born. It’s so cute too because she knows how to take my camera and start filming. She loves to take selfies at the moment. I love flipping through the pictures on the camera and finding her selfies haha. Sometimes she’ll zoom up so close that you just see nostril or eyeball. What a fun year it has been. Audrey went from being a cute 1 year old baby to a running, jumping, talking toddler. I really enjoyed this last year because she just grew up so fast. Every week she picked up something new. I must give Dora The Explorer a lot of the credit! Audrey has learned so much from watching that show. The last 2 weeks I have been seeing more glimpses of the “terrible twos” and I am scared. She’s a lot more…….bipolar now. Tantrums are just around the corner, well at least with me. The funny thing is, she’s a different baby with other people. I’ve noticed that she is the most difficult for me. I just don’t understand it, maybe its because I’m the person she’s with 99% of the time? She is definitely better behaved with others, even Tom.

We decided to have Audrey’s birthday here in AZ. Most of my family lives here and we thought it would be nice to let them celebrate with Audrey. Since she is now no longer a lap baby I don’t know when she’ll see them next. Tickets are just so expensive so it was nice when she was a lap child. We came back to AZ to visit quite often. I can’t even count how many times Audrey has been on an airplane. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was close to 100. We’ve flown with this girl since she was 3 weeks old. I remember she was pretty easy to fly with during breastfeeding, but once she started to crawl it was pretty rough for a while. She really never liked anyone holding her so once she figured out how to move on her own she didn’t want anyone to touch her. Luckily after a few months it got better because she started to be more distracted with food and kid shows on the ipad. But at 15 months she started to become difficult again for a while. The ipad would bore her quickly and she couldn’t entertain herself by coloring or books yet. Now at 2 years old flying is still rough but I am looking forward to having my own seat! It’s hard with a lap baby. You always have to be on your A game and you can’t relax at all. The last couple flights have been really bad. She hates being strapped down and she bores easily so a plane is basically torture. But then set an independent baby on her parents lap for a few hours and it’s amplified times 10. She’s had temper tantrums on the last 4 flights she’s been on…..yikes. I hope she’ll grown out of the tantrum phase soon. She’s really good at them…….but I’m equally as good at ignoring them.

Oh our sweet baby girl isn’t such a baby anymore. I can’t say that I miss those “baby” years yet. I miss parts of them but I wouldn’t want to send Audrey back in time. I just enjoy her so much at any age. Its so much fun to have conversations with her now. I can understand about 30% of what she says and it’s just adorable. She’s repeating everything she hears. I love when she copies “Oh Man!”. But then that also means we have to be very careful with what we say around her. Tom has to really watch it because he doesn’t filter his bad words well. She’s already picked up the lovely 4 letter word that starts with S and ends T from him. She hardly ever says it though – thank God. It’s so nice that I can say “I love you” and she’ll say “I love you too momma” AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. So cute!

We Are Back!

IMG_0393

We are back home from a wonderful AZ trip. I am sad to be back because it was so much fun being there with everyone. Traveling with Audrey is not easy. I had bruises on my wrists from wrangling all the luggage together, thank goodness I didn’t have to bring the pack n play! Audrey was so cute this last week. I tried to vlog but it just wasn’t working because I would forget and get busy, it just didn’t work out. Sorry guys I wish I was able to make it happen. Audrey was obsessed with airplanes on this trip. Every 5 minutes it would be “AIRPLANE Oh No!” haha TOO CUTE! We had a good great time and now we are home. It is nice to be home, but I wish I could call AZ home………soon. I know you all are missing us so much 🙂 so I will get back to vlogging today. Some exciting traveling coming up! Camping, then Cancun, and then……..EUROPE!!!!
