Chest Freezer Love

IMG_4259 IMG_4260 IMG_4261

We recently purchased this 5.0 cu ft chest freezer since our rental home has a tiny side by side refrigerator. Before we moved to Texas we had invested in a large refrigerator with a drawer freezer that we had to leave behind when we sold our last home. I was spoiled with all the freezer space I used to have so when we moved into the rental I had a hard time. We originally thought we wanted to buy the 7.0 cu ft chest freezer they carry in Costco. I went to the store to buy one but it ended up being a lot larger than I expected. I went home and checked what Walmart had to offer online and I ordered the Haier. I was very happy with the price, but was unsure with the size. I wasn’t going to be able to see it before purchasing and that always gives me anxiety. Walmart offered free shipping and it arrived quickly. The negative reviews on this unit were usually surrounding damage and denting upon delivery, unfortunately I ended up experiencing this when it arrived. The chest had been dented in the back so the lid didn’t close correctly. It was packaged well so the denting must have happened before shipping to me. Luckily Walmart made life simple and we were able to load it in the car and go return it. The freezer was the perfect size so I decided to order another one in hopes that it would arrive in better shape. The second Haier I bought was a ‘local pick up’. The Walmart by me just happened to have ONE in the back (this wasn’t an option with freezer #1). Tom was out of town but I was able to bring it home and set it up on my own. Freezer #2 was in much better shape. There was some rippling on the top but no denting. We have been using it for about a month now and I LOVE IT. It’s been the perfect size for us. It’s large enough for me to freeze ready-made meals, but still small enough that I know what foods are hanging out in the bottom. If we end up needing more freezer space I would just buy a second one and keep it in the garage. Needless to say I am thrilled with this purchase. Everything worked out in the end and I’m so happy that I took a second chance after receiving a damaged unit.

Stay tuned for my top 10 meals I freeze for my family!

Honeywell Quiet Care Cool Moisture Multi Room Humidifier HCM-6009

Colorado is the most arid place I have ever lived. It is so dry that my skin is constantly on the verge of peeling and lets not even mention how chapped my lips are. It is a big adjustment up here in the mile high city. Every year I would buy a new humidifier, and every year I was disappointed because it just didn’t do what I needed it to. Our home has a central humidifier already, but the air is so dry that the bedrooms need additional ones. Our master bedroom is pretty large so I always bought the “Large Room” humidifiers – only to discover that it would need to be filled twice a day in order to keep the humidity in the room at 40%. I prefer 50%-60% though. Filling the tanks are a chore so having to do it more than once a day is torture.

After years of buying humidifiers only to end up throwing them out after a few months, I decided to invest in a more expensive one. I figured that I probably spend $90/year on filters and humidifiers so if I just bought a more expensive unit it may last longer. And it may even WORK the way I need it to. So I bought the Honeywell HCM-6009 at for around $70. The price fluctuates depending on the season.

It is twice as large as anything I’ve owned before. It has 2 tanks that hold 1.7 gal of water, which means we fill one tank each evening. This humidifier took my room from 26% to 50% in 45 minutes. I can honestly say that I love this machine. It’s so simple and easy to clean, it works amazing, it is much quieter than some others I’ve owned, the list goes on. If something happened to this humidifier I would order a new one right away. The base has wheels so it’s easy to move it about the room. The filters are a bit more expensive $20-$30. I actually found an off brand on Amazon for $10 and they work fine. The only issue I’ve had would be mold and that was my fault. I left town for a while and the humidifier was just sitting there with stagnant water. The filter got moldy so I just tossed it and cleaned the rest with bleach and water. Again, it is super easy to clean. My skin has been so much happier now that it’s getting some moisture and it’s part of my skincare. I will never be without this humidifier – hopefully. Honeywell please don’t stop making this product!!!!!!!

I LOVE Walmart……… Have I said that before? Well I do. Just when I think that it’s just another store that can replaced by the next Target, I discover something this amazing. This Little Tikes Jumper is perfect for toddlers! It was listed online for $229 but when my Stepmom went to Walmart to pick it up they gave it to her for $118. How can you beat that?! It has a blower so you don’t have to worry about it getting a hole and I can even crawl in there with Audrey. The slide isn’t that great but she still loved it. I am very impressed with this jumper, in case you couldn’t tell. This would be a hit at any birthday party or bbq this summer.

Another Christmas has come and gone. It’s amazing how the Holidays just creeeeeeeep up on everyone and before you know it, your running around Wal Mart looking for the last can of Sweetened Condensed Milk. I don’t like to procrastinate, … Continue reading

DIY Wreath

I bought this old wreath at Goodwill for $3. It was old and ugly, but it had a good skeleton. I decided to use it to create my own wreath. Using a hot glue gun, I applied left over ornaments and ribbon from last years Christmas. All these ornaments were plastic and I had a ton extra. Every year after Christmas I raid the local stores for the 75% off sales. I bought tons of beautiful glass ornaments at Walmart this last year for about $10. Needless to say, I have a lot of extra ornaments now.

I loved how it turned out and it was such a quick project. Glue guns are really so amazing. Where would us DIY-ers be without them? This is the finished project. It’s beautiful, updated and on my front door now!

My Favorite Lipstick Dupe!

I love my Too Faced lipsticks actually I love Too Faced makeup in general. But their lipsticks are phenomenal. They are so shiny and smooth with a good amount of color. They are $20+ a piece which is a big down side if you are on a budget……and lets face it, most of us are OR should be! I have been very interested in the the FLOWER cosmetic line that is starting to show up in Wal-Mart. Today I picked up a few lipsticks and one of them is a perfect dupe for my Too Faced, Naked Dolly. In the picture I have Naked Dolly on the top lip and Morning Glory by FLOWER on the bottom. As you can see they are very very similar. When I swatch them on my hand the Morning Glory looks a lot more pink, whereas the Naked Dolly looks like a pinky nude. But on the lips they are very similar. I paid $22 at Ulta for my Naked Dolly and it’s just about empty. At Wal-Mart I paid $6.95 for the Morning Glory by FLOWER. The color is a hit, but now I need to see how the FLOWER lipsticks wear. I hate lipsticks that dry out my lips and most of them seem to do that. The FLOWER case is a lot bulkier than the little metal case that Too Faced lipsticks have, so Too Face wins that one. But FLOWER seems to be busting out of the gates at full speed. So far I’ve been impressed with their color options and quality. This may be my ‘go to’ drugstore lipstick brand……eventually.
